Rehabilitation centre/clinic Gaißach

The rehabilitation centre Gaißach is specialised in chronic Diseases for children, teenagers and adolescents. It is located about 50 km south of Munich close to the spa town of Bad Tölz, surrounded by a picturesque countryside at the foothills of the Bavarians Alps.

It has about 200 beds, 73 are for escorts of small children. The rehabilitation centre / clinic Gaißach is also accounted As a teaching and training clinic of the Technische Universität München (TU – technical university). The rehabilitation centre / clinic Gaißach is certified and regularly checked by TÜV Südbayern


Clinical departments

The following diseases are treated in the rehabilitation centre / clinic Gaißach:

  • Chronic bronchial diseases (bronchial asthma, cystic fibrosis i.e.)
  • Atopic eczema
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Adipositas/Obesity
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Orthopaedic disorders and diseases
  • Inflammary Bowel disease
  • Celiac disease  

The patients are accommodated in 1 or 2 bedroom apartments either without or with escorts. Babies and very young children are also admitted. Patients from abroad have a personal trainer for sport/physiotherapy. For patients from abroad we have interpreters and English is spoken by the Majority of the therapy team.


Adiposity / Obesity

The therapy includes the following program:

  • Weight loss
  • Nutritional training and advice in the dieticians training kitchen
  • Sport/physiotherapy
  • Psychological care
  • Medical care

One of the most important aims of the therapy is reducing weight and a permanent readjustment of eating habits. An interdisciplinary team looks after the patients i.e., paediatricians, a psychologist, physiotherapists, dietician, nurses and educationalists / teachers.


Diabetes

The goals of the diabetes rehabilitation include:

  • Metabolism improvement
  • To treat the patients to handle their metabolism during the day
  • Learn to live and accept the disease and treatment
  • Improving the physical awareness i. e. hypoglycaemia
  • Improving general health 

A therapy team of paediatricians being specialized as diabetologists, dieticians, psychologists, educationalists / teachers and sport coaches look after the patients.


Bronchial Asthma

The following therapy is offered:

  • Diagnosis (i. e. lung functional and allergy testing, if required X-rays)
  • Drug therapy
  • Asthma training for patient and escorts
  • Asthma sport
  • Physiotherapy and inhalation therapy
  • Psychological discussions if necessary 

For the long-term success of bronchial asthma treatment it is important that the hildren/young people as well as their parents are able to manage the therapy independently and in accordance with individual requirements. For this reason, patient education is an important part of the rehabilitation stay, alongside with diagnosis and therapy. The clinic is recognised in Germany as an Asthma Academy.
